Born Norma Jean Mortenson on June 1st 1926 in Los Angeles, Marilyn's mother suffered from psychological problems and was eventually committed to a mental home. Young Norma spent much of her childhood in foster homes before marrying her childhood sweetheart Jimmy Dougherty, aged sweet sixteen.
